Many adventures can be experienced in the subways of major German cities. However, that’s nothing compared to what Liam Neeson has to go through in the action thriller The Commuter. The 2018 film delivers 104 minutes of the very best entertainmentwhich you can see for yourself on TV this evening.

Michael MacCauley (Liam Neeson) is a former police officer who has been working as an insurance broker for ten years. For his job, he takes the long commute to Manhattan on a commuter train every day. One day, this monotonous routine receives an unexpected break when Michael is approached by a strange woman.
The charming and mysterious Joanna (Vera Farmiga) offers him $100,000 if he can find a specific person on the train, whose appearance is unknown, before it reaches the final station. What Michael initially thinks is a joke turns out to be a serious offer. Out of financial necessity, he accepts it and unwittingly puts himself into one dangerous vortex of blackmail, conspiracy and murder.
In The Commuter, Liam Neeson once again puts his life in danger
The Commuter already provides this fourth collaboration between director Jaume Collet-Serra and lead actor Liam Neeson Before that, they both shot the action thrillers Unknown Identity (2011), Non-Stop (2014) and Run All Night (2015) together, in which Neeson played his signature role as an aging lone fighter in an extreme situation.
Although The Commuter doesn’t quite match the quality of the three predecessors mentioned, it nevertheless proves to be an entertaining construct exciting and thrillingly filmed action sequences. The film cannot hide the fact that Neeson was already 64 years old during filming, but fortunately it doesn’t want to.
Thanks to his unpretentious acting, the development of the protagonist MacCauley into an involuntary hero who sometimes suddenly finds himself under the moving train remains believable at all times. The well-known co-stars, including Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Sam Neill and Florence Pugh, as well as a few nice twists, ensure that you definitely want to ride this train to the last stop.
