The plot is right there in the title: This X-Men film is all about time travel. In the future they will Mutants are held captive in dark camps and suppressed. This is primarily intended to change Logan aka Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). By traveling through time and averting the beginning of disaster. Which of course becomes even more complicated than it sounds.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Professor X also appears twice.
The Rogue Cut of X-Men: Future is Past lasts an impressive 17 minutes longer
