Really good horror action from the creators of Game of

Long before director Neil Marshall directed some of the best battles from the fantasy series Game of Thrones, he directed the cult horror film The Descent. In it, a group of girlfriends are locked in a monstrous cave system. 18 years later, Marshall is once again dedicated to horror in a confined space. In the bloody tear-jerker The Lair, super mutants lay siege to a military outpost.

On May 19th, the horror action film The Lair is finally coming to German home cinemas.

The Lair offers brutal mutant action with a story that fits on a napkin

Lieutenant Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk, who also co-wrote the screenplay) is nearing the end of her tenure in Afghanistan when her fighter jet is shot down. She seeks refuge in a bunker complex left behind by the Soviets in the 1980s. However, she also finds their experiments there: Super-sized super mutant soldiers waking up after 30 years of deep sleep.

Kate narrowly escapes the bestial killing machines and finds help at a remote military base. But the nocturnal super mutants follow her…

The Lair’s story fits on a napkin or small piece of wrapping paper placed over Marshall’s Dog Soldiers (2002). In the cult film, a group of soldiers in Scotland are being terrorized by werewolves. This time, military in Afghanistan get caught in the feeding line of super mutants.

Don’t expect a multi-layered horror masterpiece like The Descent. But if you enjoy a simple tear with fine practical effects, monsters and liters of blood loss, you should be satisfied in the credits of the horror action.
