Vampire horror thrives on fresh ideas. And Abraham Lincoln brings a number of vampire hunters with him. The fantasy cracker leaves the President of the United States (Benjamin Walker) complete with top hat and iconic beard face off against an entire nation of Longfangs. And it’s really entertaining. It’s on TV today.
On TV: Fantasy horror starring the most iconic vampire hunter ever
In doing so, he amusingly mixes the history of Lincoln and the USA with a bloodsucker story. Lincoln is robbed of his mother by vampires at an early age. But only thoroughbred vampire hunter Sturgess (Dominic Cooper) shows him that the whole country is infected by the monster plague. Once President, Lincoln goes into battle in the American Civil War against the Longfang brood led by Adam (Rufus Sewell).
Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter colors many stages of Lincoln’s life with horror elements, such as the marriage to Mary Todd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) or the Battle of Gettysburg. But that never turns into a history lesson, but remains exactly what the name promises. A fantasy cracker with a unique idea.
The film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel was not well received by critics (via Metacritic), who mainly lamented the horror film’s sometimes overly serious tone. But as a short entertainment it works well. He has a lot of style visually picks up the pace and features lots of fast-paced action sequences. It is not known whether a US President has ever seen him.
