The home team took an early lead but two quick goals, Luka Modric on a penalty and Eder Militao on a header, meant that the favorite away team took the lead after 40 minutes of play.
But this was Rayo Vallecano’s night.
The acknowledgment came at the end of the first half and halfway into the second Oscar Trejo made it 3–2 from the penalty spot.
It was Trejo’s second attempt. The first was saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois but the goalkeeper left the goal line too early and after VAR review Trejo was given another chance and then he made no mistake.
3–2 was also the final result and Real Madrid has thus lost its first league match of the season. Barcelona top La Liga on 34 points, two ahead of Real Madrid.
