Xavier Yvon: This summer, I’m going to my parents’ house, in the Lot.

Jules Krot : It’s a nice place. At the beginning of August I go to see cousins who still live in the village of my grandparents in Finistère.

Marion Gallard : That’s rare, there aren’t a lot of young people in those areas.

Jules Krot : Yes, during the year the village is empty. There are mostly second homes that only fill up in the summer.

Charlotte Baris : It’s the same with my aunt near Arcachon. But with telework some are still there more often now.

Mathias Penguilly : Same on the Côte d’Opale where I often go. It has become very expensive to buy even the smallest house.

Xavier Yvon : This conversation, dear listeners, took place in the studio of La Loupe, at the end of a long day of recordings. The mics were still on as the team discussed their vacation plans.

When the journalists from L’Express’ social service published a series of articles on the prices of real estate by the sea, I took the liberty of highlighting this exchange, because this discussion – which you may have had -even while preparing for your summer – reflects the situation of the entire French coast: prices are exploding, second homes are multiplying and premises are upwind.

In this episode of La Loupe, and while you may be taking the road for vacation, we tell you how our towns near the sea must adapt and above all what the consequences of these changes are for the local population and, you go hear it, they are not all negative.
