“This is an unusually large outbreak, it’s the case that we have occasional salmonella cases, and if you see more, you usually look for a common denominator,” says Maria Rydberg Mo, infection control doctor in Region Halland.
A total of 95 people in all of Sweden’s regions except Gävleborg fell ill as a result of coming into contact with the salad, according to the Public Health Agency’s preliminary figures. Västra Götaland was hit hardest.
— There are quite a few who become quite seriously ill, at least uncomfortably seriously ill. Maybe not life-threateningly ill, but it can happen in isolated cases, says Rydberg Mo.
The salad was sold nationally by a major food company.
