Construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant is now to begin.
– The 20th century was the century of coal and oil, the 21st century is that of atomic power, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during the ceremony on Wednesday when all the documents were signed.
The two nuclear power plants are to be located in Pomerania, northwest of Gdansk, and have three reactors each. The first plant is supposed to be able to start producing electricity in 2033. Both are to be in operation ten years later.
Poland has long planned to replace its large coal-fired power plants with nuclear power, but plans gained momentum after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
