In Accents du monde, the news seen by RFI’s foreign language editorial staff. We return to the re-election of Emmanuel Macron as President of the French Republic, and more particularly to what happened just after the announcement of the results, giving him the winner of the ballot, on Sunday April 24, 2022. The President s went to the Champ de Mars, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, to declare to his supporters that the next five years would be different from the previous five. One can hardly speak of a victory speech and he was well aware of that. If Macron won with 58.5%, against 41.4% for Le Pen, if we take into account the abstention rate, the picture is very different.
