A season opener to remember for Rasmus Dahlin.
And he certainly doesn’t let up on the beat.
After another scoring success last night, he is once again the best in the NHL.
Second? Erik Karlsson.
There were high hopes for Rasmus Dahlin ahead of this season. He has stepped up every season he has played in the NHL, but at the same time, his Buffalo Sabers have started to look better and better, and many hoped this would be the season he takes the big step and truly positions himself as one of the best defensemen in the world.
New smash hit
And so far, no one is disappointed. Dahlin’s start to the season is actually unprecedented in NHL history. He became the first defenseman ever in the NHL to score in the opening four games of the season. And on the momentum alone, he took the opportunity to extend that record to five opening games as well. And he doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all.
His Buffalo Sabers faced the Detroit Red Wings last night and it was never even exciting. Buffalo scored a mindless eight goals to win the game 8-3, and of course Dahlin stepped into the score sheet. Dahlin scored himself on the power play, the goal that made it 5-3 in games, and just minutes later he had an assist point to star Tage Thompson, who was thus credited with a hat trick.

Before Erik Karlsson
Dahlin’s two points means he once again leads the entire NHL in scoring for defensemen, with an impressively impressive twelve points in nine games. If you’re Swedish, it’s fun reading to say the least to look at the points league, as Erik Karlsson is second with eleven points in eleven games. The third on the list is a full three behind Dahlin, and if the season continues like this for Rasmus Dahlin, it could be an extremely fun season for the Buffalo Sabres.
Many have already talked about Rasmus Dahlin being a given candidate for the Norris Trophy, the award for defender of the year, and on social media and among NHL fans, Dahlin is lifted to the skies, game after game.
In the meeting between Buffalo and Detroit, Buffalo’s Rasmus Asplund was also noted for a goal.
