Rasmus Dahlin is now alone in NHL history.
Four games played, goals in all.
– It’s crazy, he says.
Rasmus Dahlin has grown with each NHL season, and in Buffalo there have been whispers over the summer that he took further steps in the preseason. This was the season he would take his big step, that he would be given even more responsibility in Buffalo and appear even more in the scoring production.
Incredible record
Initially, Dahlin has been getting around 26 minutes of ice time each game – absolutely brutal numbers – and he is truly the big leader of the Buffalo Sabres, who are on a real upswing. But he has also started the season in a completely senseless way when it comes to goals.
When Rasmus Dahlin scored for the third game in a row a few days ago, he tied the all-time NHL record. However, no defender had started the season with a goal in all four games played. So it was with curious eyes that NHL fans followed the game between the Calgary Flames and the Buffalo Sabers last night. And quite rightly, Dahlin wrote NHL history.

“It’s crazy”
The game was only ten minutes old when Dahlin filled up brilliantly in the offensive zone, and found a gap in the castle. The pass was perfect, and Dahlin received, flicking the puck past Jacob Markstrom in the Calgary goal. Dahlin cheered and immediately understood what it meant. Now he is alone in NHL history with scoring as a defenseman in all of the opening four games of the season.
– That I break this record… I don’t know what’s going on. It’s completely crazy, says the Swede afterwards.
And it’s not just for Dahlin that hockey life plays out. His Buffalo Sabres, who have struggled so much in recent years, have opened the season with somewhat sensational wins against the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, and are on a three-game winning streak with four games played. Much thanks to Rasmus Dahlin, who thus started better than any other back in the long, long history of the NHL.
