Brazilian Conservative President Jair Bolsonaro condemns the fact that an eleven-year-old girl was finally allowed to have an abortion after a long struggle after a rape.
Although Brazilian law allows abortion in case of rape, danger to the health of the mother or if the fetus is injured, the girl was first denied abortion by her local clinic on the grounds that the pregnancy was too long, according to local media.
According to Bolsonaro, the girl had been pregnant for seven months, a statement that has not been confirmed.
“When it comes to an unborn child who has reached the age of seven months, it does not matter how it came to be, or whether it is allowed (according to the law) or not. It is unacceptable to take the life of this helpless creature, “Bolsonaro wrote on Twitter.
Bolsonaro says he has ordered an investigation into how the abortion was allowed to take place.
The girl’s case has provoked a wave of protests in Brazil, under the motto “A child is not a mother”.
