Ranking of the 10 cutest couples at the Christmas ball

Where could a more magical Christmas take place than at Hogwarts Wizarding School? In the fourth part of Harry Potter, a particularly big festival, the Christmas Ball (in the English original: Yule Ball), takes place as part of the Triwizard Tournament. In the ranking we look at which couple can warm our hearts best in the cold season.

What is the Yule Ball?

  • The big Christmas ball takes place so that the students of the magical schools participating in the Triwizard Tournament – Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang – can get to know each other better.
  • The ball can be attended by students from the fourth year of school. Younger classmates are only allowed to participate if they are invited by an older dance partner.
  • After the banquet, the dance floor is opened with an opening dance by the tournament participants with their partners, including Harry.
  • Fun Fact: The original name “Yule Ball” comes from the pagan Yule festival, where the winter solstice is celebrated with bonfires.

How was the ranking created? The ranking is about the well-known couples who had a date at the Christmas ball. Films and books were taken into account and rated primarily according to the following points:

  • How compatible is the couple?
  • How cute does the couple appear together?
  • How nice was the ball evening for both of you?
  • Spoiler warning: Spoilers for all “Harry Potter” parts follow.

    10. Ron Weasley and Padma Patil

The meeting between Ron and the Ravenclaw student Padma Patil is really unpleasant to watch and exudes about as much charm as a loud-mouthed toad.

Ron actually just sulks the whole evening because he’s jealous of Hermione’s date with Viktor Krum. And he doesn’t feel like dancing at all.

Padma actually only agreed to Ron as a dance partner because she was more or less persuaded to do so. When she notices her partner’s lack of interest, she is visibly annoyed.

There are no other signs that the two would fit together in any way. This puts them in last place on this list.

    9. Harry Potter and Parvati Patil

Similar to her twin sister Padma, Parvati Patil also doesn’t have much fun with her ball partner. This is none other than Harry Potter, with whom she can proudly take part in the opening dance.

However, Harry would much rather go to the ball with Cho Chang. But since she already has an appointment with Cedric Diggory, she rejects the offer.

Harry also lets his replacement partner clearly sense how little he feels like spending an evening together. This disastrous date therefore comes in at number 9.

    8. Seamus Finnigan and Lavender Brown

The Irish wizard Seamus Finnigan and the somewhat naive Lavender Brown are both Gryffindors from Harry’s year. Not much is known about her date at the Yule Ball. But the evening doesn’t seem to have been particularly great for the two of them. At least we don’t find out that they met again after that.

By the time Lavender meets Ron in sixth grade, she no longer has eyes for her former ball companion.

So Seamus and Lavender’s date was most likely just average, coming in at number 8.
