Ranking: Luleå tops the list of Sweden’s best Christmas towns

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

For the ninth year in a row, national economist Charlotta Mellander has had fun naming the year’s best Christmas town.

In addition to the electricity price range, she has – with Christmas music in mind – this year also added the number of musicians and actors per inhabitant. In addition, the number of fattening pig breeders per inhabitant is taken into account – with the idea that locally produced Christmas ham is the best.

In recent years, Åre has reigned supreme, but this year the ski resort will see itself defeated.

At the top of the 2022 list is Luleå. The reasons why Nordkalotten’s seventh largest urban area tops the list are many, says Charlotta Mellander.

– On the one hand, you have a fairly high probability of having a white Christmas, and on the other hand, you are in electricity area 1, which means that you can afford to have the Advent candlesticks running. In addition, there are relatively many toy shops and candy shops per child and a fairly high proportion of children, she says.
