The opposition needs a vote from the right-wing bloc to succeed in ousting Richard Jomshof.
Now Riksdag member Anna Starbrink (L) wants the Liberals as a party to take a position on the issue.
– His behavior is not worthy of the assignment as committee chairman in Sweden’s Riksdag, she says.
The chairman of the justice committee, Richard Jomshof, is harming Sweden and endangering security. That is the opinion of S, MP, C and V, who intend to get a vote in the committee with the aim of getting him to resign.
The opposition is in the minority in the committee. In order to succeed in removing Jomshof, at least one vote from the right-wing bloc is therefore required.
Such a vote would most likely come from the Liberals, the party that most clearly criticized the rhetoric of the SD leaders.
Have spoken to the party leadership
Riksdag member Anna Starbrink (L) believes that the Liberals as a party should take a stand for Jomshof to resign.
She tells Aftonbladet that she has expressed her wish to the Liberals’ party leadership.
– I am not a member of the justice committee and will therefore not participate in the vote. I have previously expressed my personal opinion that Jomshof should leave the post as committee chairman. I still think so. His behavior is not worthy of the assignment as committee chairman in Sweden’s Riksdag, says Starbrink.
More demand Jomshof’s resignation
Two other liberal members of the Riksdag join the opposition’s demands for resignation.
– Jomshof is unsuitable as chairman of the justice committee. It would be good for Sweden if Jomshof understood the damage he is causing to the trust in the justice committee and left his position, says Joar Forssell (L), who is a member of the foreign affairs committee.
Member Carl B Hamilton (L) has previously said that he too believes that Jomshof should resign.
– You are not suitable as committee chairman if you behave as he did, he said in an interview with Today’s news.
Aftonbladet has unsuccessfully searched for Carl B Hamilton.
Partisan political game
The Liberals’ only regular member of the justice committee is Juno Blom. Anna Starbrink adds that Blom must make his own assessment and that the responsibility lies with the committee.
Aftonbladet has sought Juno Blom for an interview, but she refers to a written comment she gave to the news agency TT.
“In the serious security policy situation we are in now, we all have to focus on what is important for Sweden. It applies to Jomshof, and it applies to the Social Democrats. It is the parties themselves that appoint their own members to the committees, it is an important principle to uphold especially when we find ourselves in this serious security situation. Exploiting the security policy situation for partisan political games benefits no one. The Liberals’ focus is on increasing safety and security in Sweden.”
Richard Jomshof (SD) said on Monday that the opposition’s demands are a way of seeking conflict and division for their own gain.
