Rain delayed car show draws crowd to Mitchells Bay

The 10th annual Mitchell’s Bay Antique Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Tractor Show, delayed a day by weather, made up for it on Sunday.

Under sunny skies, more than 150 vehicles, food trucks and other vendors rolled into in the park underneath the water tower.

Karen Miles, who chaired the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association event, said they decided early Saturday to change the day, and they’re glad they did.

“It’s wonderful. It’s nice that everyone is getting together and the weather’s holding out,” she said. “This is the first time we’ve ever had to cancel.”

More than 50 volunteers helped out at the show, which also featured family activities and prizes.

Miles called the 10th anniversary show a special occasion for all involved.

“It’s been great all those 10 years,” she said. “I think it brings out a lot of people to the community and helps out the restaurants and everything. A lot of traffic.”

Jim Buis and his wife, Evelyn, of Tilbury, were enjoying the shade while sitting beside their 1957 Chevy 150 sedan.

“I’ve been here every year,” he said. “This is a nice location. And a lot of nice cars. This is about as good as it gets.”

Evelyn said they attend 10 to 12 car shows a year and Mitchell’s Bay has much to offer visitors.

“I really like it, the coffees and everything else,” she said.
