Railways the Gotthard tunnel is back in operation

(Telestock) – Gotthard Tunnel Partially Back in Operation damaged by the derailment of a freight train in August 2023 and closed to traffic since then. The accident had in fact damaged over 7 kilometers of track and switches.

This morning I am trains have returned to transit inside the “west tube” of the railway tunnel, the longest in the world, which connects Italy to Switzerland. The Swiss railways (FFS) have in fact obtained the authorization of the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) to carry out the tests for the full restore of the tunnel, which will happen on September 2nd.

The first train to pass today was a passenger convoy, which left Chiasso at 5.30 am and was headed for Basel, followed by a freight train, which left Ludwigshafen in Germany and was headed for Gallarate.
