An express train and a freight train collided near the main railway station in the city of Pardubice late on Wednesday evening.

Four people have died and dozens have been injured in a train accident in the city of Pardubice in the Czech Republic, rescue officials say.

Spokesperson for the national railway company Správa železnik Martin Kavkan according to an express train collided with a freight train late on Wednesday.

According to the CT24 news channel, the accident happened near the main railway station in Pardubice.

Kavka told the local television channel that rescuing people from the accident trains is still ongoing. He adds that there were about 200 passengers on the high-speed train traveling from Prague to Kosice, Slovakia.

Pardubice is located about 100 kilometers east of the Czech capital, Prague.
