Ragnars creator is even more proud of his new series

Vikings fans can now add another series to their binge list: All 8 episodes of Billy the Kid start now, on December 22nd, on Paramount+ (and thus also in the Sky subscription). Vikings creator Michael Hirst is prouder of his new series adventure than anything before, including Ragnar.

His new series was a heart project for Vikings father Michael Hirst

In Vikings, Michael Hirst already placed a historical figure at the center of his series in Ragnar Lothbrok. In Billy the Kid, he repeats this feat with the familiar one outlaw gunslingerswhich has a special meaning for him:

What I want more than anything is for people to love Billy. […] You think he’s a tough guy, shooter and killer?’ But I’m going to tell you the complete opposite. […] I’m probably prouder of this series than anything I’ve done before.

With a delay of 8 months, the series Billy the Kid produced by the broadcaster Epix is now also coming to Germany. So we can finally check if the western can really measure up to Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) experiences.

What is Vikings’ sequel Billy the Kid about?

Billy the Kid is set a few hundred years after Vikings: In 1871, 12-year-old Billy McCarty immigrated to America with his Irish family. But the initially hopeful journey to the west develops into a deadly undertaking. And so the boy becomes a gunslinger (played by Tom Blyth) who talent with the gun knows how to use.

Instead of focusing on the moral dubiousness of the young shooter, following the example of films such as Billy the Kid (1930) and Pat Garrett chases Billy the Kid (1973), Michael Hirst focuses on the criminal as a misunderstood character: “It is the story of one violent man with a moral compass. Billy wanted to quit.” It’s an introspective journey and a reinterpretation that will be familiar to Vikings fans who re-appreciated “barbaric Vikings” with Ragnar.
