Not enough warnings are given about the dangers of alcohol, says Vivek Murthy, the highest medical authority in the United States.
America’s top medical authority Vivek Murthy wants to add a label on the packaging of alcoholic drinks that the drinks cause a cancer risk.
According to Murthy, the recommendation for alcohol consumption should also be lowered due to the risk of cancer. Reported about it The Washington Post.
Murthy raises the issue in the guidance text of the health services, which are supposed to raise noteworthy issues for the Americans to discuss and offer solutions to them.
Alcohol consumption is the third most common preventable cause of cancer, Murthy writes in the text.
According to him, alcohol consumption is a factor in 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths annually.
– Above-average alcohol consumption increases the risk of alcohol-related cancers, but only 45 percent of American adults know that alcohol consumption can increase the risk of cancer, Murthy writes in X.
According to Murthy, the warnings about health risks on the packages are a “well-proven and effective method” for increasing awareness of health risks.
Murthy also brings up the fact that the warning labels on alcohol packages in the United States have not been updated since 1988.
New ones in Finland, published last November nutritional recommendations there is no limit to safe use of alcohol and it is not recommended at all.
