RACING | IÑIGO “The Riazor thing is going to be less important than it seems”

The Riazor fort an undefeated year with frightening numbers

“It is clear that the visit to Riazor is a game that marks in red on the calendar at the start of the league, that we really want to play it and win it, but the stage of the season we are at does not indicate that it will be a final nor a match as transcendental as it seems”. The one who speaks like this is an authorized voice from the racinguista locker room, Captain Inigo Sainz-Maza, that recognizes the importance of the clash for both teams and for the category, relativizes its impact on the final classification: “the dressing room knows perfectly well what is going to be found there, that we are going to face it with a lot of desire and a lot of ambition and we think that we can move forward by being together”.

The man from Ampuero was reflecting today, a day after the draw with Badajoz, on the opportunity they missed to have cut more distance with Depor, who lost in Logroño, although, he says, “At this point in the season, looking at the standings and point distances is not the most important thing, but to face the next game with all the desire possible and get the victory”.

Iñigo and his teammates were not at all satisfied with Sunday’s refereeing by Pastoriza Iglesias.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the Verdiblanco captain does not consider anything other than going for the three points: “We go to Riazor with the mentality of winning. It’s obvious that, if we don’t win, a draw would be better than a defeat, of course, but we’re going for the three points and cut as much distance as possible from Depor”.

Normally, Racing is not a team that has an excessive percentage of possession of the ball, it does not even seem uncomfortable without the ball, the opposite of the leader: “From what I’ve seen at Depor, it’s true that they feel comfortable with the ball, so we’re going to try to do our part and whatever they’re not comfortable with will benefit us. We’re not going to have many days to prepare for the game, but we’re sure to do well and we’ll show it on the pitch”.

Cedric is now available

Having already exceeded the prescribed forty time after his positive for COVID, Cedric Omoigui already trained this morning under the orders of José Ángel Gutiérrez, the team’s recuperator, and with Unai Medina. Although Guillermo Fernández Romo will not make the call public until moments before traveling to Galicia tomorrow, he himself declared on Sunday that Unai Median will not arrive in time for the duel with A Coruña. Everything indicates that Cedric will ride the bus. Racing will leave on a trip tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10:00 to Ferrol, where it will train at the A Malata stadium in the afternoon.

Cedric, together with Unai Medina today, has finished the quarantine and will be able to travel to Riazor.
