After a stray dog attacked cattle in Meydancık District of Defne district on April 22, the farm operator notified the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Upon notice, the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Defne Municipality took action. The aggressive dog was caught and observed by Defne Municipality teams. The aggressive dog died on April 23 while under quarantine. The cause of death of the animal was recorded as suspicion of rabies.
The sample taken from the aggressive dog by the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams was sent to the Adana Veterinary Control Institute Directorate and analyzed. As a result of the analysis carried out in Adana, it was determined that the aggressive dog was rabid. Procedures were initiated in coordination by all institutions in line with the relevant regulations and decisions.
In this context, the entry and exit of animals into the Central Meydancık District and the adjacent Güneysöğüt District, which is the center of rabies, was prohibited. In the areas where the disease is seen, it was decided by Defne Municipality and Hatay Metropolitan Municipality to collect stray cats, dogs and wild animals throughout the entire Defne district, especially in the rabies suspected area, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, to vaccinate them and to keep them in nursing homes until the disease is extinguished.
It was decided that if there were people bitten by the sick animal, they would be contacted by the health organization, the issue would be followed up by the Defne District Health Directorate, and any bite cases that might develop within the risk area would be followed up with the same sensitivity, and all relevant precautions were taken. The work to combat rabies, initiated under the coordination of the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, continues meticulously. (UAV)
