Your Azerty keyboard has just gone by itself in QWERTY mode, in English? Don’t panic! With a Windows PC, you can iron it in French in a second thanks to a simple shortcut!
You are not the first to whom it happens … You type quietly on your keyboard, and suddenly, the A becomes an q, the Q becomes an A, in short, your French Azerty keyboard has passed in QWERTY English mode! The explanation is simple. Without doing it on purpose, you have pressed a combination of keys that turned the keyboard into English … or even to another language if you added it in the Windows settings, for example German.
Here’s how to return to the Azerty keyboard, and possibly deactivate the sequence of keys that makes you switch from one keyboard to another.
In Windows 10, a simple combination of keys allows you to switch from one tongue to another, and therefore from one keyboard to another.
- To abandon the English keyboard QWERTY and return to the French keyboard azerty, press both keys Alt+Maj.
- This is the key Alt Located on the left of the keyboard. Press first Alt And keep it pressed, then press the key briefly Upris And release it.
- As long as you do not release the touch Alta menu remains displayed to the right of your screen, in recent versions of Windows 10: each new short pressure on the key Upris Allows you to switch to the following language (French, English, German, etc.). Release Alt When your choice is made.
- The combination Alt+Maj So allows you to switch, cyclically, between the languages installed on your system. That is to say, by default, between the French keyboard and the English keyboard in the Windows version installed on computers sold in France.
Even if you never need to switch from one keyboard to another, in prudence, do not uninstall the English keyboard of your windows. Here is rather how to deactivate the combination of ALT+MAJ keys, if it causes you concerns in your Windows applications and in your games.
- Click on the Start menu (the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen), then on the toothed wheel Settings.

- In the window of Parameters of Windows, then click on Time and language. If this section is not visible, first click at the top left of the window on the icon symbolizing a house to return to theWelcome.

- Click on Language In the left column of the parameter window.
- If you use a Windows 10 version equal to the 2004 version of April 2020, your screen of the settings of the Language looks like the one below: click above Keyboard (below Windows display).
- If you use a version of Windows 10 prior to the 2004 version, your setting screen of the Language looks like the one below. In the right part of the window, under the list of installed languages, click on the blue link Choose the input method to always use by default.
- The content of the window changes and is called, according to your version of Windows 10, either Keyboard (2004 or higher version), either Advanced keyboard settings. Click in all cases on the blue link Input language shortcut keysdown.

- The window Text and languages services appears. Under the tab Advanced keys settingsin the list Actionclick on Between the entry languages To select this line, then below the button To modify.

- The dialog box Change the keys sequence appears. The left column, Change the input language, You are used to change the combination of keys to switch from one tongue to another. It is she who interests us here (and no Change the keyboard layout,, We explain to you later why). Click on Uncompinedon the left, then on the button OK.

- The touches sequence Alt+Maj is now deactivated: you will therefore no longer risk switching from one language to another inadvertently.
The combination of ALT+MAJ keys is not the only solution to switch from one keyboard to another. There is even a small subtlety to know …
- In Windows 10, the key combination Windows+Space a (almost) the same effect as the combination Alt+Maj : Press this shortcut one or more times to obtain the desired keyboard.

- There Windows key is located at the bottom left of your keyboard, it uses the little “flag-window” as a symbol of Windows. Hold it down, then press the spacing bar.
- The difference between the two shortcuts? Alt+Maj is used to pass from one language to anotherwhile Windows+Space Allows you to pass from one keyboard to another. But since you have probably not defined several keyboards for the same language on your computer, the two keys combinations ultimately have the same role!
- If you have not changed the Windows settings, the current language is always indicated to you at the bottom right of the screen, in the taskbar, near the time. For example Fra for French, or Go For English (English).
- Place the mouse pointer on the tongue, the help bubble reminds you of the combination of keys Windows+Space.

- Click on Fra Or Go In the taskbar, in the lower right corner of the screen: a drop -down menu presents the installed languages. Click on one of them: This is another very simple way to activate the desired language keyboard.

Display Windows 10 settings to add or delete languages and keyboards, or to modify the key combinations (shortcut keys) to switch from one tongue to another and from one keyboard to another.

- If the name of the keyboard (FRA, Eng, DEU, etc.) is indicated to you in the lower right corner of the screen, that is to say in the Windows taskbar, near the time, click for example on Fra then on Linguistic preferences.
- If the name of the keyboard does not appear in the taskbar, here is another method to access linguistic preferences: go through the Start menu > Settings> Hour and language> Language.
- The window Language of the Parameters Difficult a bit depending on the Windows 10 version installed on your PC, but you have the possibility of adding a tongue by clicking on the button + Add a language (Or + Add a default language). The two arrows High And Down are used to change the order of languages.

- You can of course delete a language already installed by clicking on its name, then on the button DELETE. You can thus decide, for example, to delete English, which would obviously avoid to error from one keyboard to another, if only the French keyboard remains installed. However, we do not recommend this method, keep at least French and English as recommended Microsoft: Disable the keyboard shortcut alt+update instead explained above.
- Note that it is not possible to delete the first language which appears in this list, since it is the default language of the system.
- This parameter window also serves, in particular, to associate several keyboards with the same language by clicking on the button Options of this language.

- For language French (France), that Windows mentions Frayou could for example define two keyboards (and even more): the classic Keyboard French Azertyand add it Keyboard French (Swiss) Qwertz. There will then be a language (Fra on the illustration above) with two installed keyboards (one Frthe other SF, on our illustration).
- We sum up: we go from one language to another by pressing several times Alt+Maj (Fra> Eng> Deu> Fra> Eng …).
- We pass from one keyboard to another within the same language by pressing Ctrl+Maj (FRA/FR> FRA/SF> FRA/FR…).
- We go from one keyboard to another whatever the language (Fra/Fr> Fra/SF> Eng> Deu> Fra/Fr…) by pressing Windows+Space.
- To change the key combinations Alt+Maj Or Ctrl+Maj or provide a specific key combination to activate this or that keyboard that you have installed, in the settings of Languageif you use a version of Windows 10 equal to the 2004 version of April 2020, click at the top of the window on the icon Keyboard.
- If you use a version of Windows 10 prior to the 2004 version, under the list of installed languages, click on the Blue Link Choose the input method to always use by default.

- Whatever your version of Windows 10 (the window is called either Keyboardeither Advanced keyboard settings), click on the blue link Input language shortcut keys.

- The window Text and languages services appears. In the list Actionclick on Between the entry languages Then on the button To modify.

- The dialog box Change the keys sequence appears. As We saw it higherthe left column Change the input language You are used to change the combination of keys to switch from one tongue to another. Click for example on Uncompined.

- The right column, Change the layout of the keyboard, It will only be useful to you if you have assigned two keyboard provisions to the same language, which is unlikely. For example, if you have associated the French/France/Azerty keyboard and the French/Swiss/Qwertz keyboard with the French/France language.
- Note that if you have not changed the Windows settings, by default, switching from one keyboard to another for the same language is therefore made via the combination Ctrl+Maj. This combination has no effect if there is only one keyboard installed for the language currently selected.
- For each keyboard installed, you can associate a precise combination of keys. Click on keyboard name in the list Action Then on the button To modify.

- In the window that opens, check the box Activate the keys sequence, Then select an option in the two drop -down lists, before pressing the button OK.

- Your personal touches sequence is defined!
