Qurbanli Djurgården’s hero despite penalty misses

At the beginning of July, Djurgården opened the wallet to strengthen the offensive with the scoring machine Qurbanli from Qarabag in Azerbaijan.

In front of the home crowd at the Tele2 arena, the striker got a big break in the Allsvenskan football match with Degerfors.

Early lead goal

The match was only a minute old when Qurbani wiggled the ball forward to Gustav Wikheim who thundered in 1-0 at the far cross.

Joe Guay equalized for the visitors in the 20th minute, but the red and white joy was short-lived. The Degerfors defense was reeling three minutes later and Musa Qurbanli easily headed in 2-1 from close range. In the 34th minute, the ball then ended up at the feet of the Azeri national team member, who scored 3–1.

— It’s going well, I’m working hard and I’m hungry for more, was Qurbanli’s message in the break interview with Discovery+.

Burnt penalty

He got a dream situation to quench his hunger with another goal when Djurgården received a penalty with barely an hour played. But from eleven meters, Musa Qurbanli still has some work to do. The penalty was weak and Sondre Rossbach stopped Qurbanli from becoming a three-goal scorer.

It was still 4–1 a little later, when Marcus Danielson stylishly headed in a corner in the 64th minute. With a few minutes left to play, Qurbanli received a standing ovation from the fans as he was substituted.

With the victory, Djurgården is doing its best to try to close the gap to the top trio Elfsborg, Häcken and Malmö FF. At the same time, Degerfors tumbles down to the qualifying spot because bottom colleague IFK Göteborg just defeated Häcken in the derby at Gamla Ullevi.
