Sirkka Haverinen,

Hinn Hirvonen

will show the Lappeenranta GP races on Wednesday. The broadcast on Areena starts at 17:25 and on TV2 at 18:30.

The track and field GP series culminates today in Lappeenranta, and there are a lot of fresh EC competition visitors.

Missed the heats in the 100 meters in Munich Samuli Samuelsson is looking for a good run in Lappeenranta before the match against Sweden in September. Samuelsson broke the more than 20-year-old SE in July, when he clocked a new 100-meter Finnish record time of 10.16 in Porvoo.

– There is quite a lot of hunger, there was a lot left behind from the European Championships. The competitions were not a success from my point of view, Samuelsson admitted.

On Kimpinen’s field, the owner of SE will face tough competitors from Finland, Great Britain, the United States, and the Netherlands as well.

of the United States Chris Royster has run 10.07 this year, Brits Oliver Bromby and Tommy Ramdhan 10.21 and 10.22. The Finns involved include, among others Santeri Örn, Oskari Lehtonen and Viljami Kaasalainen.

– This really gives a lot, everyone is at the same level as me, if not even better. I’m looking forward to racing with them. Even from a Finnish perspective, the coverage is tough, there will be a really good 100 meter race, I would say probably very good for domestic races.

Samuelsson describes the conditions in Lappeenranta as excellent, although he does not promise a new record.

– The track is fast and hard, which sprinters usually like. I have really good memories here, I’ve never had a bad run here. I don’t promise a Finnish record, but we’ll see. I hope there won’t be a thunderstorm in the middle of the games, Samuelsson talked.

Halo has no pressure at home

Made it to the semi-finals of the women’s 400m hurdles Kristiina Halonen described the European Championships as a great experience. Halonen ended up seventh in his heat in the semi-finals with a time of 56.82. In the preliminaries, Halonen was only two hundredths short of his record when he ran 56.70.

– The experience was great, especially when there was success and there was a good team spirit. The people made the experience great, Halonen beamed.

Halonen, representing Lappeenranta Urheilu-Miehii, gets to compete on Wednesday at his home field.

– I have no pressure, it’s so relaxed to be here. He enjoys being in front of the home crowd even more.

Only three participants compete in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, but that doesn’t bother Halo.

– It’s not necessarily a great or tight race, and it doesn’t look good on TV, but I’m not really interested, I’m going to do my own run. I have a desire to run hard, no matter who it is. I can do it alone if I can! Halonen acknowledged.

Hold on to victory

Quick beeper Reetta Hurske is up for the main prize of 10,000 euros, which is awarded to the winner of the overall competition. In addition to Hurskee, Halonen and Samuelsson, among the EC competition visitors in Lappeenranta on Wednesday will be seen, among others Krista Tervo and Kristian Pulli.
