Quick goals broke United’s title drought

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf did not get any playing time in the final but had to watch the entire match from the bench.

Joseph Elanga was out of the squad.

But Nilsson Lindelöf was able to join the victory celebrations and count his first title with United.

The Swedish national team captain joined the English club just a few months after United had won the Europa League title in 2017. That season the club also won the League Cup.

Since then, the title cupboard at Old Trafford has not been replenished.

So the victory cheer after the success at Wembley in front of 87,306 spectators was as big as expected.

Alexander Isak was out of Newcastle’s starting line-up, but came on after the break as a replacement for Sean Longstaff.

Then United had taken the victory just before the break.

Casemiro headed home Luke Shaw’s perfect free-kick in the 33rd minute and just six minutes later Marcus Rashford struck.

His finish took on Newcastle defender Sven Botman and went in an arc over goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The minute before the lead goal, Allan Saint-Maximin had a chance for Newcastle, but it was saved by United goalkeeper David de Gea.

But Newcastle had difficulty creating hot chances and Alexander Isak & Co were mostly stuck at the edge of the penalty area.

Instead, Manchester United and Dutch manager Erik ten Hag had to celebrate a broken title drought.
