A mysterious muscular prowess is widely shared on social networks. We see videos of very muscular people able to move each muscle fiber independently of each other. This oddity can be seen on Tiktok under the hashtag #AlienGains.

Can you really make your muscles “vibrate” during contraction? On Tiktok, this feat has a name: the “Alien Gains”. His hashtag #AlienGains has more than 36 million views on the Chinese social network. We see videos of muscular men, with a particularity: they are able to move muscle fibers independently of each other. But, is it accessible to everyone?

People who can do this actually have rippling muscle disease. “In most people with this condition, stretching the muscle causes visible ripples to spread across the muscle, lasting 5 to 20 seconds,” explains the National Library of Medicine on its website.

“It is a form of myopathy, that is to say a disease of the muscles which is of genetic origin”, specifies, in a instagram video, Dr. Paul-Matthieu Chiaroni, known as “ledoc.pm”. “It is a mild disease, that is to say that it does not have serious consequences on health”.
