Anyone who loves Quentin Tarantino’s films primarily because of their cool dialogue, catchy pop soundtracks and cartoonishly exaggerated violence will be offended by The Hateful 8. After the entertaining Django Unchained, Tarantino’s follow-up Western from 2015 is a uncomfortable lumpwhich locks mostly hateable characters in a room and allows the emerging paranoia to escalate to bloody levels.

For The Hateful 8, Tarantino neglected many of his catchy trademarks after Django Unchained in order to go with it caustic cynicism and massive brutality to tell about fatal secrets and racist motives. His film lives up to its title.
Despite the usual star cast with names like Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell, the characters in this chunk turn out to be unpleasant contemporaries who are practically never suitable as identification figures. The Hateful 8 becomes one of the most radical and darkest Tarantino films ever.
Dark Tarantino hit was influenced by horror masterpiece
Paranoia and violence in a group of people locked in a small space in the freezing cold? It’s no coincidence that the plot of The Hateful 8 is reminiscent of John Carpenter’s sci-fi horror classic The Thing from Another World. A four-minute-long video essay shows the obvious parallels between Tarantino’s film and the 1982 masterpiece. Many shots from both works, such as the landing of a helicopter or a chess duel, are extremely similar.
