Quentin Tarantino himself wrote the screenplay for his absolute hate

Quentin Tarantino films are critics’ darlings. And he himself rarely leaves a bad hair about his directing work. The situation is different with Natural Born Killers, which began with a Tarantino script. Shortly after the theatrical release, he declared that he hated the FSK 18 scandal film and banned his fans from seeing him. What happened?

Quentin Tarantino hates bloody scandalous films – even though he wrote the screenplay himself

Oliver Stone’s brutal swan song to sensationalist media follows hitman couple Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory (Juliette Lewis) on a bloody murder spree across the United States, chronicled in parts by immoral reporter Wayne Gale (Robert Downey Jr.). The film caused a controversy when it opened in cinemas, as many critics found it glorifying violence (via New York Times).

With regard to the level of violence in his own films, Tarantino probably had no problem with that. What bothered him was that his screenplay was barely recognizable in the film. “I tried to make the film immediately visible in the script. Why have [die Verantwortlichen] none of this accepted?‘ he mused on The Moment podcast. I sort of have the work for [sie] did! According to Far Out Magazine, Tarantino’s first submission had a much stronger focus on filmmaker Gale.

However, his displeasure only became public when he was sued by the film’s producers. He wanted to publish his screenplay version independently. Apparently he didn’t like that. I hate this shitty movie“, quotes him from Far Out Magazine. “If you like my stuff, don’t watch it.“But he also admitted to The Moment that he’s never seen it in full.

Every viewer has to decide for themselves whether his harsh judgment is justified. Despite script spats and controversy, the film was a box office success, according to Stone, discussing Indiewire. Tarantino hates the work no less for that.
