Cult director Quentin Tarantino doesn’t mince his words when it comes to expressing his enthusiasm or displeasure with other films. It sometimes happens that he loves films that tear others apart and verbally destroys celebrated works. So Tarantino also slammed Jennifer Lawrence’s biggest hit: The Hunger Games.

The reason for the dislike of the Hunger Games franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence can be found in Tarantino’s favorite film of the past 20 years: The Filmmaker Adores battle royale from the year 2000 – a bloody action dystopia in which students must fight to the death.

Suzanne Collins’ first tribute from the hunger novel Deadly Games* also sent several teenagers into a deadly arena, but was not released until 2008. The film adaptation, starring Jennifer Lawrence, was released in 2012. This led Quentin Tarantino to state:

Template author Suzanne Collins, however, denied the accusation that she stole the idea for her hit novels from Japanese author Koushun Takami, who published his controversial book Battle Royale in 1999:

I had never heard of this book or its author beforebefore I start my novel [Die Tribute von Panem] submitted.
