As a director, Quentin Tarantino has made one cult film after another. Despite his reputation, he was unable to convince Eon Productions to let him make a Bond film. This is how James Bond 007 – Casino Royale came about without his vision and started Daniel Craig’s time as the iconic spy. That he wasn’t allowed to make the filmhit Tarantino so hard that he didn’t see Casino Royale. However, Tarantino has seen the other Bond films with Craig and he has a strong opinion about Skyfall in particular.
Skyfall’s finale ruins the film for Tarantino
For many fans, Skyfall was a highlight of recent Bond history. The film grossed over $1.1 million, according to The Numbers the most successful film in the series. However, there was one major point of criticism about the film. The action sequence in the third act was not liked by many people, including Quentin Tarantino.
In an interview with the ReelBlend podcast, the director spoke about recent Bond history. He explained, among other things, that he felt betrayed by Skyfall in some way.
With Skyfall I was like, ‘This whole damn movie ends with a shootout in a damn cabin? Is this supposed to be a James Bond film?’ This isn’t James Bond, damn it! From the first action sequence in Specter I thought: ‘This is a James Bond film’.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-2TeVe5e1U&t=6964s&ab_channel=ReelBlendPodcast
ReelBlend’s interviewers seem to have the opposite opinion and think Skyfall is the better Bond, but for Tarantino Specter was apparently the clear favorite. And that’s probably not just because Christoph Waltz is in this part as Blofeld makes his Bond debut has given.
Rather, Specter had a more classic Bond feel than Skyfall. This included, among other things, the amount of gadgets available to the spy. However, not all fans will agree with Tarantino that Specter is the better Bond film. In the end, this is probably simply a question of personal taste.
