Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee: Why is the royal balcony photo important and who will be excluded?

Queen Elizabeth IIs Platinum Jubilee Why is the royal balcony

In England, it is an old custom for the royal family to gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on special occasions and greet the public.

There is also a balcony meeting in the opening program of the Platinum Jubilee ceremonies, where Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th anniversary on the throne is celebrated.

But at the celebration on June 2, two members of the royal were not invited to the balcony: Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.

Prince Harry, who moved to the USA with his wife Meghan Markle, is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Andrew is the Queen’s middle son.

Andrew, who was accused of sexually abusing an American woman when he was 17, said that the allegation was unfounded, but agreed to pay a hefty compensation before the case went to court.

The Prince’s name has been resigned from official royal duties after his name was involved in a sex scandal with young underage women that erupted in the United States. However, Prince Andrew denies any accusations.

In a statement from Buckingham Palace, it was stated that only members who “hold their official royal duties” will take part in the balcony.

This designation means that both princes are excluded.

In the statement, it was stated that 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II will attend some of the Jubilee events.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be in the UK

Although not included in the family photo on the balcony, it has been announced that Prince Harry will travel to England with his wife and two children, Archie and Lilibet, to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, who left England shortly after their marriage, still hold the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but have resigned from their official royal duties.

The criticisms of the couple against the royal family in an interview with a television program in the USA drew reaction in England.

Queen's gold-plated chariot

In particular, the remarks of Markle, the daughter of a black mother, implying that she was subjected to racism created controversy.

Whether or not the Queen will participate in the celebrations will be determined depending on her state of health.

The palace noted that it would not be determined until the last moment whether the Queen, who had to cancel a series of appointments for health reasons in the past months, will appear in public in June.

Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, and his wife Camilla and Crown Prince William, his wife Kate and their children are known to be featured in the balcony photo, which is important because of its symbolic value.
