The press release is intended to be reassuring: Elizabeth II is only suffering from mild symptoms, similar to a cold, and intends to carry out minor obligations this week at Windsor Castle where she currently resides. The announcement does not come as a surprise. Prince Charles has already tested positive on February 10, two days after seeing his mother. Many employees of the royal household have also contracted the virus.
For ten days, therefore, the Palace had maintained the mystery of the queen’s viral status – no press release to confirm that she had tested negative as a contact case. However, she appeared on Tuesday when she received, by videoconference, the credentials of the Estonian ambassador.
Obviously, the announcement worries because the Queen is still 95 years old, 96 in April. She has only just resumed her public appearances, at the beginning of the month, after health concerns in October. The entire political class and many celebrities have taken to social networks to present their wishes for recovery to their sovereign.
