The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced the latest host community payment it said is based “on a formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement that is consistently applied across all land-based casino sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.”
Point Edward has traditionally used the bulk of its annual share of casino revenue for capital projects, but a portion of the money also goes into the village’s operating budget.
OLG said in a news release, the village has received more than $52.6 million since the casino opened in April 2000.
“Investing OLG’s profits back into host government communities is another example of our continued efforts to strengthen local infrastructure and community programs,” said Stan Cho, Ontario’s minister of tourism, culture and gaming.

“We remain focused on working with our municipal partners to ensure that communities across Ontario have the supports in place to empower their residents to lead active, fulfilling lives and enable local businesses to thrive,” Cho said.
OLG also announced Sarnia received $108,801 for the same period as its share of revenue from Gateway Casino Sarnia, a slots casino located at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Starlight Casino Point Edward is a larger venue with gaming tables, as well as slot machines.
Since the slots site in Sarnia opened in May 1999, the city has received a total of more than $27.7 million, OLG said.
Both locations are operated by Gateway Casinos and Entertainment.
