Today Qualcommmiddle class Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and entry level Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 announced chipsets. While the 6 Gen 1 is built on the 4nm manufacturing process, the more affordable Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 has the 6nm manufacturing architecture. The first Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 powered devices are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2023, while the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will be released this quarter.
Unfortunately Qualcomm hasn’t shared all the specs of the CPUs, so we only know that the main cores of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will go up to 2.2GHz, while the CPU of the SD 4 Gen 1 will go up to 2.0GHz. Both offer eight cores, but no details on architecture and efficiency were provided. Used Adreno GPUThere is no mention of either.
Snapdragon 6 Generation 1
All Qualcomm has to say is on the graphics performance of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 35% increase and computational performance. 40% increase promises, but didn’t say what it’s using as a reference. Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, 15% faster CPU and 10% more powerful GPU presents. We’re assuming this comparison is with the Snapdragon 480/480+ as the company currently doesn’t have any other 400 chipsets.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 has 12-bit Spectra Triple ISP that supports native HDR image capture and 200 MP cameras. There are also HDR videos in the menu. Some advanced AI capabilities are at hand, and the chipset takes advantage of the 7th generation Qualcomm AI Engine that helps with bokeh, overall performance and energy optimization.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 brings 4th generation Snapdragon X62 5G modem along with Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
Snapdragon 4th Generation 1
Qualcomm’s AI Engine is also used in SD 4 Gen 1, but not the latest. New hardware is now Variable Speed Shading It can support 120Hz FHD+ displays.
Spectra Triple ISP in 4th Generation deals with noise using Multi-frame Noise Reduction technology and can support 108MP cameras.
5G connectivity is provided via the Snapdragon X51 5G modem, but there is no Wi-Fi 6E support here.
