The Quadrantids – a spectacular meteor shower
The first meteor shower of the year, the Quadrantides, is currently passing over Sweden, and during the night of January 4th, a magical spectacle will appear in the sky when the rain reaches its peak. The Quadrantids are one of the most spectacular meteor showers where you will be able to see up to 80 shooting stars per hour under optimal conditions. They are known for their unique blue color, which is due to the high speed of the meteorites and the content of magnesium and iron.
Until tomorrow morning, January 4, 2025, this can be seen in the sky just below and to the left of Karlavganen’s wagon pole.
– There have been fantastic northern lights already. So you can’t miss that. And tonight, besides, we’re going to encounter a meteor shower, they say Marianne Oakspace educator at the research center Curiosum in Umeå, in an interview in SVT.
