Qantas says it plans to acquire 12 Airbus A350-1000s from the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which it says can fly from Sydney to any city in the world.

Australian airline Qantas plans to open a direct flight from Sydney to London.

The route, scheduled to open in 2025, will be the longest commercial air route in the world.

When that route was first opened in 1947, it contained seven stopovers and lasted 58 hours.

Qantas says it plans to acquire 12 Airbus A350-1000s from the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which it says can fly from Sydney to any city in the world.

Qantas says it plans to open a direct flight to New York in addition to London.

The Airbus A350-1000, which operates between Sydney and London, will have 238 seats. According to Qantas, the seats in the plane are more spacious than before.

The planes will also have a so-called wellness area where passengers can stretch and move around.
