Blizzard does not let its fans down and reveals more and more information snippets about its upcoming Hack & Slay before the release of Diablo 4. This time it’s the turn of the PvP mode and it shouldn’t be for the faint of heart.
Why is? The news site gamesradar+ (via gamesradar.com) was invited to a roundtable interview with Blizzard. During this session, numerous questions were asked regarding the PvP feature “Fields of Hatred”.
The priority was to examine the mechanics and function of PvP in Diablo 4 more closely. Blizzard explains that the fields of hatred are not places, to be fair. Anything goes and only the best and most ruthless player can win.

What did Blizzard reveal? One question revolved around how Blizzard plans to ensure that low-level players aren’t being torn apart by max-level players. Lead Game Producer Kayleigh Calder clarified that there is no matchmaking in PvP, although all players present will have similar power and item levels. There should be “some variations”, but not so diverse that experienced players form groups and flatten beginners.
For combat purposes and how players can win, Associate Game Director Joseph Piepiora offers more info. According to him, there are no battles where only certain classes can win. Any player can crush anything and anyone with the right build.
Above all, however, Joseph emphasizes the tactics of the players. Everything is allowed, so an ambush might be the better strategy to bleed your opponent dry. The developer says, “This is not a dueling system. That’s not how the fields of hate are, you know? The fields of hatred are killing grounds; this is not a place of honor.”
So it becomes clear that if you want to play PvP, you should pay attention. The enemy is lurking everywhere and it’s only a matter of time before the rags fly.
How do the developers react to players who are too strong? The developers have little doubt that players will create builds that are very strong. But that’s not bad, because the fun shouldn’t be nerfed.
Fans who now lead builds that are far too strong are thrown onto the fields with players of equal standing. So no hero should have less fun on the fields just because they are too strong or unfair. Nerfs are therefore rather unlikely in relation to the fields.
That was all the important info regarding the Fields of Hatred and how Blizzard intends to turn you into a beast with no regrets. What do you think of PvP? Will you test the feature or would you rather ignore it? Let us know in the comments!
