In the grain corridor agreement in which Turkey assumed the role of mediator for the solution of the food crisis that broke out with the Ukraine-Russia war, the fact that grains were sent to EU countries made Russian President Vladimir Putin complain. Putin announced that he will discuss the issue with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“WITHOUT TURKEY, IT WOULD BE SENT TO EU COUNTRIES, NOT TO POOR COUNTRIES”
In his speech at the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok, Russian President Putin touched upon the grain agreement between the United Nations, Russia and Ukraine, in which Turkey is a mediator. Putin stated that with the agreement in question, the grain was delivered to those in need:
“We have done everything to ensure the export of Ukrainian grain. I met with the leaders of the African Union, with the leaders of African states, and I promised them that we will do everything to ensure their interests. We did this together with Turkey. In conclusion, I am explaining to you my dear colleagues; If Turkey did not have the status of a mediator, almost all of the grain exported from Ukraine would have been sent to the EU countries, not the developing and poorest countries.”
“I WILL MEET WITH ERDOĞAN”
On the other hand, Putin said that Ukraine and the EU did not comply with the terms of the agreement, and that most of the grain went to the EU, not to poor countries, and said he would prevent this so that an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster” would not occur.
Talking about restricting grain and food exports to the EU, Putin said he would discuss the issue with President Erdogan.
“We respect the agreements. But it turns out that the West has officially destroyed not only us, but also the poorest countries,” Putin said, adding that if the shipments to Turkey as an intermediary country are excluded, only two of the 87 shipments fall under the scope of the UN World Food Programme.
“EUROPE SACRIFICES ITS SELF TO PROTECT THE DICTATORSHIP OF THE USA”
Putin said that Europe sacrificed its values to preserve the “dictatorship” of the United States:
“Western countries are striving to maintain the old world order that is only beneficial to them, to force everyone to live by the notorious ‘rules’ they invented and regularly violate. They constantly change the rules for themselves depending on the current situation. The gap between the interests of the Western elite and their own citizens is widening. Thus, the level of industrial development reached in Europe, the quality of life of people, socio-economic stability, all these are ignored by the demands from Washington in the name of ‘Euro-Atlantic union’. In fact, it is sacrificed to preserve the dictatorship of the United States in world affairs.”
“RUSSIA SHOULD SURVIVE”
“In the spring, many foreign companies raced to announce that they were withdrawing from Russia, thinking that our country would suffer the most from this,” said Putin. One of the most important reasons, of course, is the breaking of commercial ties with Russia. “It was the elusive dominance of the United States of America in the global economy and politics that accelerated these processes, as well as the stubborn unwillingness or even inability of the Western elite to see and recognize objective facts.”
