Known for his opposition to Russian leader Vladimir Putin and receiving treatment in Germany after being poisoned, Alexei Navalny was found guilty of high corruption in the case he was tried in Moscow. Navalny is currently detained in a Moscow prison.
As a result of the last trial, which Navaly described as purely political, there could be an additional 13 years to his current 2.5-year sentence.
Alexei Navalny, who was brought from the prison where he was staying, attended the hearing held in the capital Moscow today. The prosecutor requested a 13-year prison sentence for Navalny for alleged corruption.
Navalny, Putin’s leading opponent, was poisoned on a plane during his trip to Siberia and was later taken to Germany, where he was treated at the initiative of the then German Chancellor Merkel. Returning to Russia after treatment, Navalny was arrested. The Kremlin Palace, on the other hand, has continued to deny the allegations that Navalny was deliberately poisoned.
While Navalny complained about the poor conditions in his prison, many people who supported him had to leave Russia, fearing that they would be imprisoned in a similar way. The Navalny support movement also opposes Russia’s Ukrainian operations.
