Putin’s new reality – as Ukraine enters a new phase of the war

On Tuesday, images of burning oil depots in the Russian city of Kursk were spread.

No major loss can be considered for oil-rich Russia. But the last two days of bombings inside Russian soil, hundreds of kilometers from the fighting inside Ukraine, push Putin’s regime right into a new reality.

41 weeks into the giant war, Ukraine is demonstrating its ability to attack targets even in the vicinity of Moscow.

During Monday, two important air bases were bombed, partly in the Ryazan region, just 20 miles southeast of Moscow, and partly the Engels base in the Saratov region. On Tuesday, energy infrastructure was attacked – a strategic fuel depot in Bryansk and the oil storage in Kursk.

Details: Have started a new phase of the war

Officially, Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the airstrikes, which were likely carried out using converted drones. But via leaks to international media, the Kyiv government has signaled that Ukraine has now entered a new phase of the war.

The Russian regime, for its part, admits that it is Ukraine, which, with the help of its modified weapon systems, reaches these targets, which do not seem to have had sufficiently developed air defenses.

A consequence of that is that Russia’s repeated bombing campaigns against Ukrainian civilians are now becoming more difficult.

On a field visit to Donbass on Tuesday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not comment on the drone attacks, but maintained an optimistic tone, announcing that “the whole of Ukraine, step by step, is on the way to liberation.”
