Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 meeting in Brazil in November. That because his arrival would “ruin” the conference.

– We would basically destroy the G20’s work, for what? We will find someone (else) in Russia who can promote our country’s interests in Brazil in a dignified way, he says at a press conference on Friday.

The reason is that Brazil is formally obliged to arrest the president, who is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC warrant for Putin’s arrest was issued in March 2023 and was motivated by the forced transfer of children from Russian-occupied territories in war-torn Ukraine.
