Romania’s defense chief, Vlad Gheorghita, warns of an escalation of the war in Ukraine.
Gheorghita is “more than convinced” that Putin will soon target other European targets.
The war continues to rage in Ukraine and more and more countries in the immediate area are taking steps to strengthen their defenses.
In connection with the People and Defense conference, for example, Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M) stated that there could be war in Sweden – and that all Swedes must act to strengthen the country’s resilience.
Commander-in-Chief Micael Bydén shared Bohlin’s picture and declared that all residents should get ready for war in Sweden.
The same fear exists not least in Romania.
The Romanian warning
In an interview, the head of the Romanian Defense Staff warns that the country does not have the capacity to act in proportion to the military dangers that exist. Romania also lacks the necessary legislation needed to prepare the population to face an extension of the war in Ukraine – something he is sure will also happen.
– The Russian Federation has become a problem for the world order, for democracy, says General Vlad Gheorghita in Romanian Radio Liberty.
– In fact, it is a war between Russia and the democratic world. It is not a war with Ukraine, he continues.
That will be Putin’s main goal
The defense chief says that the population of Romania, like the entire population of the EU, must worry and take appropriate measures to be prepared for Russian attacks.
– I personally, not necessarily as a military person, believe that the Russian Federation will not stop here. If he wins in Ukraine, the main target will be the Republic of Moldova, says the general and continues:
– We will witness tensions in the Western Balkans. I am more than convinced that President Putin’s policies will escalate in the near future.
