Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed that Andrei Troshev, who co-founded the Wagner Group, take over the leadership of the group from Yevgeny Prigozhin.
According to CNN, Putin told Russian newspaper Kommersant that he made the proposal at a meeting with Wagner militiamen and Prigozhin five days after the group’s rebellion was put down.
Putin tells the newspaper that many at the meeting “nodded in approval” when he presented the proposal.
Andrey Troshev, who goes by the nickname “Sedoy,” which means roughly “gray-haired,” according to CNN, was a former colonel in the Russian army and was one of the co-founders and CEO of the Wagner Group, according to sanctions documents published by the EU.
Troshev was chief of staff of the Wagner group forces that fought for the Syrian regime during the Syrian civil war.
