Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in China for a two-day visit, following an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Russian television images show Putin being received by Chinese government representatives in Beijing.
The two countries have in recent years expanded their economic cooperation and strategic cooperation has grown after Russia launched its full-scale invasion war in Ukraine.
In an interview with the regime-controlled New China (Xinhua) news agency, Putin praised China’s handling of the crisis in Ukraine.
– Beijing is well acquainted with its root causes and global and geopolitical importance, Putin says in the interview.
The visit is Putin’s first trip abroad since he was re-elected in the spring’s staged presidential election.
