Putin had to show his power by killing Prigozh says

The researchers who visited in the morning estimate that the threshold for rebellion against Putin has now risen. If there is a new rebellion coming, it must be well organized and carried out.

Wagner Director Yevgeny Prigozhin death in a plane crash has raised suspicions of Kremlin revenge. Prigozhin and his troops rebelled against the Russian armed forces in June.

Researcher at the Foreign Policy Institute (UPI). Jyri Lavikainen didn’t spare his words when visiting morning on Thursday.

– Prigozhin’s days were already numbered at the point when he embarked on a rebellion project against Putin. It was just a question of when the revenge would come. I would believe that the background here is that Prigozhin was neither a normal rebel nor a normal traitor and this was not a normal situation. Therefore, Putin had to show his power by killing him as quickly as possible, and now was the right moment, Lavikainen said.

Also visiting researcher at the Aleksanteri Institute, docent of military sciences Ilmari Käihkö expressed his suspicions that Prigozhin had been murdered.

– At this stage, we are of course speculating about what has happened, because there is no information. However, one thing is certain, namely that the threshold for making a future rebellion has increased. If you start a rebellion, the threshold to finish it has decreased. That is, if the rebellion starts, it must be carried out to the end, Käihkö said.

“Putin’s basic problem remains”

According to Lavikainen, the situation does not solve Putin’s basic problem.

– When Prigozhin’s rebellion was going on, the Russian administration did not take action against it on its own initiative, but instead waited for an order from above. At that time, Putin himself was even a little unprotected for a while.

Lavikainen estimates that if we see a new rebellion in Russia, its success will depend on how well it is organized.

– Prigožin’s rebellion was not very well organized, Lavikainen stated.

Käihkö, on the other hand, said that a negotiated solution is no longer an option for the next rebel.

– Prigozhin is out for days despite the agreement.
