The Russian president thinks that the damage to the Balticconnector could have been caused by a hook, anchor hitting the pipe or an earthquake in the area.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the claims about Russia’s involvement in the damage to the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia are “complete nonsense”.
Putin commented on the matter for the first time today at a press conference in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The matter was reported, among other things, by the state news agency Tass.
He emphasized that he didn’t even know such a pipe existed.
– Complete nonsense! It is a gas pipe with a small diameter, said Putin.
He thought that Balticconnector is not as well protected as Nord Stream. According to Putin, it is possible that the damage was caused by a hook, anchor hitting the pipe or there was an earthquake in the area.
In his opinion, the various accusations against Russia regarding, for example, foreign gas pipelines are meant to cover up the “terrorist act” that Western countries committed against the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
– President [Sauli] Niinistö is a wise and competent man, but he cannot fail to understand that the purpose of such claims is to cover up the “terrorist act” committed by Western countries against the Nord Stream, the Russian president claimed.
