Put a little of this product in the toilet before

This gesture is often forgotten before the big departure on vacation. However, it is essential to avoid any unpleasant surprises when you return. Here’s how to do it.

As the start of the holidays approaches, you start the big tidying up and cleaning of the house to leave with peace of mind and enjoy the holidays. The whole house is tidy, the bins emptied, the dishwasher too, the washing machine door is left open, the shutters closed, the water cut off, etc. You have thought of everything! Are you sure?

One of the things we almost never think about is toilet maintenance while we are away. And often, when we return, a bad sewer smell emanates from the toilet bowl. However, a simple and effective little tip can save you a lot of trouble when you return: put baking soda in the toilet before leaving on vacation. Why is this tip so practical and how to apply it correctly?

Baking soda is a versatile household product that has many beneficial properties. When it comes to cleaning and maintenance, it is particularly appreciated for its deodorizing and antibacterial abilities. When you go on vacation, stagnant water in the toilet can become a breeding ground for bacteria and bad odors. By using baking soda, you can prevent these problems naturally and effectively.

Applying this trick is very simple. Before you leave, make sure your toilet is clean. A quick clean with your usual product will give you a healthy start. Pour about half a cup (100 grams) of baking soda directly into the toilet bowl (on the bottom, and on the sides).

Leave the baking soda on for the duration of your absence. It will continue to work by neutralizing odors and limiting the growth of bacteria. When you return, flush the toilet to remove the baking soda. Your toilet will be clean, odor-free and ready to use.

You can also use this technique in the pipes to prevent bad odors from rising in the kitchen and bathroom. Pour 2 tablespoons of soda bicarbonate of soda in the sink, washbasin and shower and that’s it!
