Called the “puff”, this disposable electronic cigarette is the new darling of teenagers. But far from being trivial, puffs represent the first step towards a future addiction to nicotine among the youngest.

Puffs are fashionable among young people, but not without health risks. These are disposable electronic cigarettes with a sweet or fruity flavor, but which contain nicotine. And who says nicotine necessarily says risk of addiction. Which can be worrying for teenagers.

    Puff: 2% Nicotine

Indeed, these disposable electronic cigarettes can contain up to 2% nicotine. Asked by our colleagues from BFMTV on the subject, Dr Amine Benyamina, head of the psychiatry and addictology department at Villejuif hospital, explains that “unlike vaping, which is a great risk reduction device, here we are dealing with the complete opposite of the spirit of vaping. It is an initiation to tobacco consumption. It’s absolutely dramatic.” he laments.

    Popularized on social networks

Appearing in the United States in 2019, puffs were quick to arrive in France, popularized by social networks like TikTok, some users of which regularly promote them. Packed like lollipops, the puffs are sold between 8 and 12 euros. Available from tobacconists or certain supermarkets, but also on the Internet, their free sale makes it almost impossible to verify the age of buyers, although it is clearly indicated on the package that they are prohibited for people under 18. .

    Seizure of the authorities

A ban “written on the package, very small of course, but it is written” insists Loïc Josseran, president of the Alliance against tobacco, at the microphone of BFMTV, who is worried about this trend. The Interprofessional Federation of Vaping (Fivape) has even already sent a file to the authorities, in particular to the general management of Health (DGS), to alert them to this new trend which is gaining momentum, to the detriment of the health of the youngest.
