Public health offering rabies vaccination clinics

School suspensions for incomplete vaccination records paused in Sarnia Lambton

Lambton public health is offering rabies vaccination clinics between March 25 and May 13.

Clinics are open to cats and dogs three months and older, in good health and not vaccinated against rabies within the past year, public health officials said in a news release.

Animals must be restrained, and the cost per animal is $30 cash, officials said.

Rabies is a fatal, viral disease spread through saliva from an infected animal and can enter the body through a bite or scratch, officials said, noting pet owners are legally required to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies.

Clinics are:

  • March 25 — 9-11 am at the Rutherford public works garage, 4590 Lambton Line in Dawn-Euphemia; and 1-3 pm at the Dawn-Euphemia community centre, 6213 Mill St., Florence;
  • April 1 — 9:30-11:30 am at the Cairo public works garage, 1345 Cairo Rd. in Dawn-Euphemia;
  • April 15 — 10 am to 3 pm at the Bright’s Grove Animal Hospital, 2684 Lakeshore Rd.; and 1-3 pm at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood community centre, 3310 Walnut St.
  • May 6 — 9:30-11:30 am at the Oil Springs fire hall, 4589 Oil Springs Line;
  • May 13 — 9:30-11:30 am at the Enniskillen public works garage, 4465 Rokeby Line.

Separately, public health officials said Wednesday they’re searching for a dog and its owner after someone was bitten by a dog around 9:30 pm March 9 at the Tim Hortons in Forest.

The dog is described as a large, dark brown and black mastiff that was tied up outside the restaurant with a black collar and brown leash.

The person who was bit did not see the dog’s owner, public health officials said.

Without verifying the animal’s health status, the person who was bit will require post-exposure rabies shots, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact public health at 519-383-8331 ext. 3584.
